Une note d'auteur

As Anishinabe People, each part of our lives is a story. We sing the hurts and triumphs of our ancestors as we sit, drum in hand, encircled by our sisters and brothers. We dance the secrets of crows and butterflies, the pounding of our feet one with the sounds of the beating heart of the earth. Everything we do from making fry-bread to counting the beads on our regalia tells a story. Sometimes there is laughter and sometimes we can’t help but break into tears, but the one thing you can always count on is that we will give you a piece of ourselves (and probably send you home with some bannock too).

"Bear Paws" tells the story of Edith and her G?kom, Memego. Together the two spend an afternoon making a traditional dessert for Edith's school bake sale. Edith, being the naturally inquisitive youngster that she is, asks her grandmother to tell her about her school days. As the paws begin to fry up nice and golden brown, Edith learns exactly why her grandmother could never like school in the same way that she does and why G?kom Memego is so fond of Edith's bake sales.
